Secret Path

A favourite path along the banks of the Spey near Aviemore.

With much of Scotland seeing snow this last few days, here’s one from a local wander, taken last year when these snow patches were all that was left of a long winter.  Often there isn’t much colour about at this time of year, but with the growing sunlight there are some great textures in the woods. For an image taken at the same place in late spring see my blog here.

As our hearts go out to the people of Japan this week and the terrible events there, I was drawn to something I sent last year.  I’m thinking of how connected our world is, how much more aware we are with our 24 hour news and internet of events in our world, but also on a deeper level how more of us are becoming more connected to the inner conciousness of our planet.  I believe this is something that can only grow as more of us continue to awaken and grow in consciousness.

I make no apologies for repeating this – I think its timely.

In  ‘The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight’ by Thom Hartmann, the author describes the growth of our ‘Younger Culture’ city/state mindset, based on ideas of consumption, domination and unlimited growth, and contrasts with ‘Older Culture’ tribal awareness based on cooperation and respect for the sacredness of all life.  He suggests that if our society is not to collapse, we must adopt new cultural stories, in effect a bringing in of traditional tribal consciousness into our modern mindset.  He suggests many practical ways in which we can all individually begin to change our consciousness.  Changing the world begins with changing ourselves.

“The true power of meditation – and the true reason for meditation – is to become awake in this very moment.  And from that place – that here-and-now touching of the power of life – we can find the ability to transform ourselves and others in ways which will and can transform the world.”

– Thom Hartmann, ‘The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight’.
