Echinacea with hover fly
It seems to be time for what is becoming the annual Echinacea photo. As a photographer, I should probably be looking out for some new aspect or way of showing it, but each year I see them with fresh eyes and perceive the warmth and energy coming from these flowers. The hoverfly was accidental – it landed just as I was focussing on the flower.
In my travels this week I had a beautiful evening stop at The Hermitage near Dunkeld – no photos since the sun had just gone too low in the evening leaving the gorge in the deep shade – but it was beautiful to spend a few minutes in the tree cathedral there (some of the tallest trees in the UK grow here, mostly Douglas Fir planted in the 1860s), and to watch the salmon attempting to leap the falls. There had been heavy rain the day before, so the falls were rushing and foaming. Its quite amazing to watch the strength and agility of these fish as they strive with every ounce of their body to make it upstream.
