Red Squirrel, Rothiemurchus.
Quite a week for rain! Oh, and a pile of snow on the hills on thursday, and my courgette plants keeled over with the frost last night – it must be autumn! This squirrel jumped up into the trees as I came by, luckily my dog didn’t see it until after a couple of poses. She’s very keen on “tree-rabbits” and tries to climb after them – no hope!
“October is the fallen leaf, but it is also a wider horizon more clearly seen. It is the distant hills once more in sight, and the enduring constellations above them once again.”
— Hal Borland (American writer 1900-1978)
Other amusing squirrel sightings recently included watching a pair scrabbling round and round a big old pine, fighting over some choice fungi (and where to store it). Serious chattering ensued as first one stole it, then the other nicked it back! What was that about storing life’s abundance for the winter times ahead? Here’s to some clear horizons ahead…
