Birch reflections on ice. Stones beneath.

Last week’s snow thawed during this week, in the process of which I found this ice beginning to break up.  I love the way the shapes combine, together with the reflected birch tree – a bit of a Tangram puzzle!

I’ve really noticed the days getting longer this week, and a brighter quality to the light during the day.  We’re now into the getting-brighter phase of winter, although with the warm days this week it feels like spring already.  I’m sure there will still be some wintry surprises in store for us!

“The difference between spirit and matter is as the difference between water and snow.  Frozen water is snow, and melted snow is water.  It is spirit in its denseness which we call matter; it is matter in its fineness which may be called spirit.”

– from The Mysticism of Sound and Music, by Hazrat Inayat Khan.

“What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses.  There is no matter.”

Albert Einstein.
