Hydrangea backlit in winter sunlight
It was Imbolc this week, or St Brigid’s day (traditionally at the start of February), marking the halfway point between the winter solstice and spring equinox, marking the start of spring. There is noticeably more sunlight, when it shines. That was after this week’s terrific storms, with broken trees and flooding everywhere… But there definitely are stirrings, the woods today were full of almost-out snowdrops.

“It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to. . . . The feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is more important than the feeling for pictures.”
