Icy Stream

Icy stream

Its been a stunning week, with temperatures down to minus 14 but luckily with crisp sunshine too.  This stream is near a favourite walk, unfortunately the sun doesn’t reach into it at this time of year, but that alowed me to take a long exposure to show the flowing water against the ice.

A Happy New Year to you!

Although, following on from something a friend wrote, what’s the big deal with happiness anyway?  Surely, the thing is to focus on Being Present.  This way, instead of society’s insistent drive to “Have a nice Day” you don’t get carried away by false expectation, but find the treasure in each moment.  That’s the theory, anyway!

“… it was written in a Tibetan text that the biggest obstacle humans face on the spiritual path is their tendency to be too busy.  It’s hard to think of the world of yak herders as busy compared with our world of jobs and cars and paperwork and email.  But it is our nature to fill time, and then to complain that we have too much to do.

For some, adding spiritual practice to life seems to be another thing to fit into our schedules, but it doesn’t have to be like that.

As long as we breathe, we can practice.  We can inhale what is positive and exhale what is harmful. We can remain mindful and practice kindness and compassion.  these take no time away from anything else. “
