Sunshine and Showers

Cairngorms rainbow during violent storm

Rainbow over the Cairngorms

Braeriach, seen through a rainbow from Craigellachie.  I can scarce remember such a stormy summer (???) week.  There has been fresh snow on the high tops every day this week, with constant gales and heavy showers.

In a rash moment brought on by some in-between sunshine, I climbed Craigellachie in the hope of some atmospheric photographic conditions.   The wind at the top was bitter and my hands soon lost all feeling…  I couldn’t hold the camera steady in the battering wind, despite lying on the ground behind a sheltering cairn to steady myself.  However, the atmospherics were wonderful as a storm came surging across the strath, the rainbow staying constant for nearly an hour as the light played with the stormclouds.

Afterwards, a golden light spread across the sparkling land as the sun sank, and I descended the crag.

“We were sent into the world alive with beauty. As soon as we choose Beauty, unseen forces conspire to guide and encourage us towards unexpected forms of compassion, healing and creativity.”
