Crocus flower
Its spring, we’re just past the equinox, the sun is warm (if you’re in the shelter away from the biting wind!) and its time for a crocus image. These wee flowers are so cheery after a long Scottish winter 🙂
I watched the Channel 4 documentary programme ‘Live from Space‘ – broadcast live from the International Space Station. It really is incredible seeing the beauty of our amazing planet from orbit, and I was struck by the language used by many of the astronauts interviewed, how going to space had changed their perspective so that they truly saw and felt the Earth as one, without boundaries, as a precious jewel to be cared for.
“If you could see the earth illuminated when you were in a place as dark as night, it would look to you more splendid than the moon.”
– Galileo Galilei, ‘Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems’, 1632.
“As I looked down, I saw a large river meandering slowly along for miles, passing from one country to another without stopping. I also saw huge forests, extending along several borders. And I watched the extent of one ocean touch the shores of separate continents. Two words leaped to mind as I looked down on all this: commonality and interdependence. We are one world.”
