Evening light across the Monadliath mountains, from Tullochgrue, Aviemore
I love the ‘distant hazy ridges’ effect here, looking over the early spring woods, from Tullochgrue hill, as the sun sinks behind the Monadliath. On days like this I am constantly reminded to be grateful for the wonderful country we live in, in fact for the beautiful planet we live on. There are so many amazing places, and so much beauty at home too.
I like this quote. The mind is wonderful at tricking us; those that live a solely intellectual ‘mental’ life may well miss out on the bigger picture. We also need a heart-based understanding, but more than that is the intelligence of the body, which immediately understands so much of what is going on. Yet, so few of us are actually ‘in’ our bodies and paying attention to its feelings, wisdom and knowledge directly, without first filtering these through the mind.
“If you use your mind to study reality, you won’t understand either your mind or reality. If you study reality without using your mind, you’ll understand both.”
– Bodhidharma (5th/6th century Buddhist monk)
