Suspended in a raindrop
A moment in the garden… A break in the summer rain and the sun sparkling through. For a few minutes, the world lay suspended in a raindrop.

The moor in the late evening, the near-full moon glowing orange in the post-sunset, while the hills merge into an abstract haze.
After the daily pour had temporarily ceased. the sun obliged by granting me this lovely rainbow, and a beautiful reflection of the sunset rays on the hills.
Continuing my annual quest to get the waterlily image that I’m after in my head
From a sparkling day in early summer when all the leaves are fresh and brand new. These two giant-sized fir stand guard near the banks of the Findhorn Gorge and have an amazing uplifting energy.
Scots Pine in heather bloom The light was just incredible on this late evening, just before sunset, the heather glowing purple and giving off clouds of pollen. Unfortunately there was not even the slightest breeze, and thick clouds of midges were taking full advantage. Its an exercise in pure mental focus to concentrate on a […]
Waterlilies on Lochan Mor Its time for the semi-annual foray to see the waterlilies on Lochan Mor (literally – the large-sized small loch… Gaelic place-names are so completely descriptive). Earlier in the summer the flowers were mostly submerged, after all the constant rain. Now they’re floating nicely. I love how the light shines through them […]
Sunset clouds reflected in a lochan, Rothiemurchus This week, summer has come to Scotland, and we’ve been basking in the heat. The heather is coming now into full bloom, covering the land in a rich scented purple. In the cool of the evening the moorland scents are exquisite, heather primarily, with a sweetly strong note […]
Sunset Pine, Rothiemurchus Forest Its been a wee while since the last image email – I’ve been busy, and the weather this summer has been – well, I think its rained every single day since midsummer! This was on one of the good days recently when the sun deigned to shine, giving us a glorious […]
Sparkling raindrops on Geranium Our Scottish summer is in full swing – moments of intense sunshine sparkle through the raindrops. This image is from the garden, a lovely pinky-purple geranium first thing in the morning after a night of rain. The garden is full of bees, so we must be doing something right. Big bumblebees […]
A grove of Giant Redwoods, Dawyck Botanic gardens in the Scottish Borders If you like trees, I can thoroughly recommend a visit to the Dawyck Botanic gardens, near Peebles, where 350 years of sustained interest and plant collecting from the cool temperate areas of the world are beautifully laid out. Its a real contrast after […]
Beams of golden light after a storm Dramatic skies on a stormy summer evening, in the Campsie Fells near Fintry, North of Glasgow. Looking across the Flodden moss towards the Trossachs and Ben Lomond in the distance. And yes, it did pour on me, but not for long 🙂 The cloudscapes were amazing, with everchanging […]
