Crocus

Crocus flower and leaves

Its spring – the sun has shone all week and although its still very chilly at times, there has been some real warmth.  Crocus bulbs have shot up all over the garden, and the first few are in flower.  I was trying to do something a bit different from the straight pictorial with this image – by going in ultra-close with the macro lens I have blended the colours from the leaves with the intense yellow from the flower, with the sun shining right through it.

For years, copying other people, I tried to know myself.
From within, I couldn’t decide what to do.
Unable to see, I heard my name being called.
Then I walked outside.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.

The door is round and open.
Don’t go back to sleep.

– Rumi, from ‘Essential Rumi’ translated by Coleman Barks
